This new single-story child development center on the Village Church campus was designed from the ground up around the needs of young children, balancing safety, energy performance, and a welcoming environment in a purpose-built facility.
The structural system features cantilevered steel framing and generous roof overhangs designed for passive solar performance. Rooftop clerestory windows bring natural daylighting deep into the interior spaces, while a white reflective TPO roof and a rooftop solar array work together to reduce energy consumption and operating costs. The building envelope and mechanical systems were designed with long-term sustainability in mind.
Every element of the design and construction was considered through the lens of the ultimate occupant: children. Double-door security systems with independent controls at both the inner and outer entries ensure that only authorized adults can access the children’s areas. Interior windows and doors are appropriately scaled and designed specifically for children’s use. Primary colors were consistently used across interior finishes to create a stimulating, age-appropriate environment, and playground equipment and play surfaces were included in the project scope. Wood-look aluminum ceilings in the entry canopy and lobby spaces add warmth and architectural character.
“The talents and hard work that Pearce’s project team brought to the construction process are evident in the quality of the facility that is the newest extension of our mission and ministry.”
