How We Built This Project

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is one of the Kansas City area’s most visited attractions, welcoming more than 500,000 visitors annually. Pearce constructed a new public entry building and playgrounds to provide a more welcoming visitor experience.

The entry building was constructed using heavy timber post-and-beam principles, with rough-hewn wood flooring and rustic steel framing brackets and fastening systems that complement the farmstead’s character. The building includes large-scale restrooms, seating areas, concession facilities, and volunteer stations designed to efficiently handle the staging of school field trips and large public gatherings.

Because the Farmstead remained open to the public throughout construction, jobsite safety and access control were a primary focus. Construction entry and exit points, barriers, and safety precautions were carefully managed to protect visitors, including children, at all times.
