How We Built This Project

A new, two-story student center serves as the social, athletic, and academic hub of the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary campus. The single-building program was broad and ambitious: a bookstore, dining hall, commercial kitchen, gymnasium, elevated running track, racquetball courts, locker rooms, weight training rooms, study areas, office space, and a coffee and ice cream shop in the lobby.

The building’s limestone veneer exterior and two-story curtain wall systems establish a strong campus presence while flooding interior spaces with natural light. The gymnasium features a floating maple wood floor with seminary graphics and seating for basketball and volleyball. The elevated running track is suspended directly from the roof structure, a distinctive engineering solution that preserves usable floor area below. The president’s dining room and conference center accommodate large gatherings and formal instruction in a setting appropriate for the institution’s leadership.

Significant site grading was required to manage the campus slope and meet accessibility standards, with extensive drainage infrastructure installed throughout. Utilities and rough-in systems were installed in anticipation of a future athletic field north of the building. HVAC systems were configured for remote access, control, and troubleshooting. Large-format tile flooring defines the lobby and primary circulation areas, while interior and exterior student study spaces extend the building’s usefulness beyond the classroom and dining environments.

Construction was completed on time and under budget, aligning with the academic calendar.

“Pearce Construction was consistently available to meet, and they gave us the freedom to voice questions, preferences,
and ideas. Their team was driven, yet flexible when needs arose. They worked efficiently to bring us a quality facility
within our needed time and budget.”
