An addition and renovation expanded Mill Creek Community Church’s facilities while maintaining completely uninterrupted church functions throughout construction. The need to remain operable shaped every aspect of project sequencing and site management.
The most logistically sensitive element was the replacement of the church’s primary lobby and restrooms. Rather than simply adding new facilities alongside existing ones, the existing lobby and restrooms were demolished first, and the new spaces were constructed in their place. This required the establishment of a temporary, secure pedestrian pathway through the active construction zone for use during daily programming and weekend services.
The single-story education addition included new classrooms, restrooms, a lobby, and support areas. Natural daylighting was incorporated into both lobby and classroom environments. Exterior lighting was designed to illuminate the cross, windows, and west facade walls after dark.
Existing masonry and EIFS finishes were carefully matched to prior construction phases, creating a seamless visual continuity across the campus. A reclaimed lumber feature wall was also installed as an architectural accent within the new spaces.
“The entire project experience with Pearce was fantastic! Pearce’s pre-construction services helped us design a better, more efficient space. We also made design decisions that helped accelerate our schedule and save us money! If we wouldn’t have had Pearce Construction in the room, we would have ended up with an inferior design that cost more and took longer to build.”
